Kieran's In-Home Newborn Photo Session — St. Louis, MO

There are some newborn photography sessions that genuinely feel like a dream, and this was one of them. When the nursery is Harry Potter-themed, the parents are kind and beautiful and friendly, and the baby is happily awake and bright-eyed for half the session and sweetly sleepy for the other half, it’s a good day for newborn photos.

Add in an affectionate family dog, lovely, warm window light, and perfectly-styled outfit choices (a flowy shirt for mom with lots of textural interest, a classic denim button-down for the new dad lending a classy but casual vibe, and the sweetest cream-colored, three-button-henley onesie plus jeans and suspenders on babe for the most handsome, dapper baby) and you have the recipe for an easy-going session with lots of beautiful photos to show for it.

It’s pretty common for me to take more photos than is necessary at a photo session, but when the conditions are this perfect, it’s easy for me to get a bit carried away. That results in a big gallery and so many sweet newborn memories documented. I usually don’t get too many complaints about lots of photos from adoring new parents, though.

My goal for each time I photograph a newborn baby and their family at home is to document not just the tiny details that make up this big moment of life, but to really capture how it feels to be living it. I strive to create artful photos that transport parents from their future lives right back to the fleeting days when they first met their baby and could stare at him for hours on end, learning every detail and taking in the newness and profoundness of it all.

I hope that this gallery and the many photos within it will be that precious time machine for these lovely parents as their sweet baby grows and changes. As infancy and toddlerhood fade into the beauty of childhood and the tumult of the teenage years… even as this baby one day becomes an adult himself, I wish for these photographs to be more than images on a screen and paper. May they alter time by bringing these memories rushing back. May they be a reminder of how loved and cherished this human has always been.

If you are expecting a baby and want an in-home newborn photographer to freeze time for you, I’d love to document the precious newborn days for you, too.
